Belly Band Card with Gift Card Holder

Hello all,

Welcome back to my blog. This card was created for a 13 year old's birthday. Since they only want cold hard cash, I made it with a built-in gift card holder.

Start with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of Balmy Blue Cardstock, for your base. Score at the 2 3/4" mark on each end (in landscape). Trim 4 pieces of Blackberry Bliss cardstock to 2 1/2" x 4" and one to 4" x 5 1/4". Cut 2 pieces of the same Whale of a Time DSP to 2 3/8" x 3 7/8" (for the outside) and repeat the process with a different patter of DSP from the same suite (for the inside). You'll also need a 3 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece of Basic White Cardstock for the inside, where you'll write your message.

Attach the DSP and the white to the Blackberry Bliss backgrounds. Since it allows a moment for straightening, I prefer to use our Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Optional: on one of my DSP scraps I noticed this ridiculously adorable wee turtle and two fish. I punched it out and put it on the white. So cute!

Glue on the 2 front DSP pieces to each outside flap. Next attach the Basic White piece to the inside centre. If you're making a gift card holder, using your 1 1/2" Circle Punch, punch the inside edge of one of the DSP pieces going on the inside of the card. Only go in about 1/2" to create a notch. (When I saw "inside edge" I'm referring to the side that will be next to the white piece.)

Your Silicone Mat will be your best friend for this part. Lay a gift card or credit card over wrong side of the piece you punched the notch from. With your Stampin' Seal+, leaving a little margin, go out the 3 sides that weren't notched. It's okay for the seal to go onto the mat. Once you've done all 3 edges, pick it up. Hold each sdie against the mat and fold it down (towards the mat). This should cause the Stampin' Seal + to fold inwards and stick to itself. Worse case scenario (or if you don't have a mat), you can fold it back with clean fingers. Attach it to the inside of the card.

Attach the remaining DSP piece to the other side of the card.

Since I didn't want to cover up this gorgeous DSP, I made a Vellum belly band. I went with 7/8" (3/4" seemed to narrow and 1" seemed to wide...lol) Vellum is unforgiving, so make sure you have in lined up properly before you fold it around the card. It needs to be tight enough to stay up and loose enough to be removed. Alternatively, if you want to score it, do that at 2 3/4" less 1/16" on each side. It must be done very lightly or it'll tear through (which is what I did the first time.)

With your Stitched Shapes Dies, cut out the oval from a scrap of Balmy Blue Cardstock. I used the Layering Ovals on a piece of Blackberry Bliss Cardstock for the next smallest layer.

From the Punch Party Bundle stamp your greeting, in your Blackberry Bliss Classic Stampin' Pad and punch it out with the regular oval. (Confession: I couldn't find my ink pad, so I used my Blackberry Bliss Stampin' Write Marker instead. This 2 in one punch is must have - you get a great sized oval for greetings and the a slightly larger scallop for the background piece.

Using Mini Glue Dots on the outside edge of the back of the blue oval, attach it to the vellum strip. Tip: the easiest way of ensuring it's straight is to fold up the scored edges of the vellum and place the oval on top. (Don't push the edges of the vellum together, there should be a little gap.)

The seaweed die comes from the Smooth Sailing Dies. I cut out one and half (from vellum). They were attached to the blue oval with the glue dots. Tip: Do this while the belly band is around the card so you can see the placement.

Attach the greeting the the Blackberry Bliss background and then, with Stampin' Dimensionals, attach it to the blue oval. And you're done. NOPE! False alarm. We need some bling. Stick on a couple clear Rhinestones Basic Jewels.

(I also put a scrap of DSP on the envelope. Decorated envelopes just kick things up a notch.)
