Since Canada Day is almost upon us we've dedicated our blog hop to "something red." I am incredibly proud, and particularly grateful, to be Canadian. Like most other Canadians, my ancestry is a bit of a patchwork quilt - some origins known, others not. My mother emigrated to Canada when she was in her late twenties. My father was born here, but his parents were not. Granddad was an orphan. One day I am going to spring for an ancestry test to fill in some of the blanks. Regardless of the results, I will always consider myself Canadian.
There are so many things to love about this incredible country. It's physical vastness is breathtaking. I've been blessed to climb in the Rockies, walk through prairie wheat fields, be mesmerized by the power of Niagara Falls, swim in the Pacific Ocean, and so much more. I've seen bears, moose, elk, beavers and eagles. I've listened to the haunting calls of the loon and whooping crane. I've been left sleepless by the delightful chatter of tiny frogs. I've explored the biggest cities and stayed in the smallest towns. I love Canada for it's inclusivity, it's diversity, and it's friendliness. Our politics aren't perfect but I am one of the privileged people on this planet who get to vote.
I have seen much of the world and fantasized about living abroad. I have envisioned myself in a flat near the Vienna Opera House. I have imagined living in Edinburgh, where my daughter went to university and where my mother grew up. I have even priced real estate in the Tuscan Hills. One day, I may have something somewhere. But it will be a place to visit. My heart lives here. This country, my Canada, is and always will be home.
This finished project is 8" x 8" and ready for framing. My base, the background pennants, and the maple leaf were made with Real Red Cardstock (#102482) The large letters and pennants were done in Whisper White (#100730). The greeting was stamped with the Real Red Classic Stampin' Pad (#147084). The wood-look is achieved with the incredibly versatile Wood Textures DSP Stack (#144177). The letters were cut out using the Large Letters Framelits (#141712) and the maple leaf is from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits (#143751). The Pick a Pennant is brand new and can currently be bought as a bundle (#148393). The beaver was fashioned using homemade eyes, teeth, the Fox Builder Punch (141470) and Early Espresso Cardstock (#119686) - because life it too short to be taken seriously. And in Canada, you always run the risk of being photobombed by a beaver!

Happy Canada Day! Bonne FĂȘte du Canada!

Love it Adrienne! The beaver made me smile the moment I laid eyes on it.
