Seashore Stampers September Blog Hop

 Hello all and welcome!

This month, in the Seashore Stampers Blog Hop, we are celebrating all things Thanksgiving and Halloween. I chose to focus on Thanksgiving. In addition to all the delicious food, it's a time where family and friends gather...often to give thanks, funnily enough.

I have so very much to be thankful for this year. My honey has finished his cancer treatment. My recovery from surgery has been amazing. And the icing on the cake, our daughter is coming home from Montreal. I am filled with gratitude for all the support we received this year. You guys rock!

We've slowly been getting the thank you cards out - there are a LOT. I created this one for my brother and sister-in-law who did SO much for us during those really challenging months. Since they will be hosting our family's Thanksgiving celebration, I'll give it to them then.

The base is Early Espresso (4 1/4" x 11", scored at the 5 1/2" mark), the next layers is Pretty Peacock (3 3/4" x 5") and the lovely paper comes from the Come to Gather Designer Series Paper package (3 1/2" x 4 3/4".) This part of assembly is straight forward and the 3 layers can be attached using your Snail.

Ride with Me has the adorable truck and pumpkin. They were stamped in Memento Ink and coloured with Blends. I used the Crumb Cake Set, the Light Smoky Slate, the Black Set and the Pumpkin Pie Set. Wink of Stella was used on all the "metal" parts of the trunk and the window. The wheels received some added dimension and sheen from Fine-Tip Glue Pen. The truck and pumpkins were fussy cut and attached with Dimensionals. Alternative: If fussy cutting isn't your thing, this card would still work with the truck stamped on a small rectangle or oval of whisper white.

"Thanks" comes from the Well Written dies. I did it in Pumpkin Pie and Pretty Peacock to add dimension and visual interest. They were attached to each other with a small amount of Multipurpose Glue and then slightly offset. The "thanks" was attached with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

A Star, A Star.

 Hello wonderful people,

This card a created for a demonstrator swap. (Each demonstrator makes enough cards to share with everyone in the group who is participating. This way we wind up with a bunch of cards from sets we might not own or with designs we may not of thought of.) All the supplies, excepting tools and adhesives. will be listed at the end of my post. Stampin' Up! recently upgraded my website, so it's still a work in progress. Message me if you have any questions.

Trim your Night of Navy cardstock to 4 1/4" x 11" and your Silver Foil to 4" x 5 1/4". You'll also need a piece of Night of Navy, measuring 3 3/4" x 5". For the star grab some Silver Foil and Vellum, measuring at least 2 1/4" x 2 1/4". The star swirl needs a 1 3/4" x 4 1/4" piece of Silver Foil. You'll also need a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" piece of Whisper White for your greeting. (And this is why we hang on to our scraps. Although the longer I do this, the bigger the scrap has to be.)

Emboss your 3 3/4" x 5" piece of Night of Navy with the new Hammered Metal 3D Embossing Folder. (This is one of those amazing embossing folders where it's tough to choose which side to use.)

From your fabulous So Many Stars Bundle, cut the star swirl & largest "fancy star" from Silver Foil. Use the 4th largest star die (that is the same size as the fancy star) on your Vellum. (Tip: Be sure to save the little stars from the swirl to decorate the inside of the card or the envelope, or save them for another project.)

With your Whisper White, using your Stamparatus, stamp your greeting in Night of Navy. Without removing the stamp, clean it with the Simply Shammy. Give the stamp and the image a moment to dry. While keeping the paper still in place, wipe your greeting with your Embossing Buddy. Reink the stamp with VersaMark and stamp over the Night of Navy. Remove your paper and sprinkle Clear Embossing Powder over the VersaMark. Using your Heat Tool, make the magic happen. Your 2nd largest Stitched Shapes Dies oval will cut it out in the right size.

I used the Multi Purpose Liquid Glue to attach the layers and the swirl. The greeting was attached with Dimensionals. Attach the Vellum star underneath the Silver Foil star with a Mini Glue Dot. I then used a Mini Dimensional to attach the assembled star to the card. Finally I added a few Basic Rhinestone Jewels. (So many of my posts end with this sentence...lol)

A Chance to Help

Each year approximately 1 in 5 people are affected by mental health issues. Look around you. It's someone you love, a friend, a sister, a parent, a student. It can be anyone.

About 20 years ago, I was at a conference where our guest speaker was an Emergency Room doctor. He asked how many people in the room had been in the ER. Just about everyone put up their hands. He asked how many of us had received stitches and tons of hands were raised, some proudly. He asked who had broken a bone and quite a few hands went up. He asked who had undergone surgery and a bunch of hands went up. He asked how many people had a mental health issue and not a single hand was raised. Miraculously, out of the the 300 people in that room, no one suffered from mental health issues. He then told us to look around our table. He said the odds were 2 people at each table were suffering. And they couldn't admit it because of the stigma they would face. Thankfully we are finally starting to talk about mental health and there are so many more supports in place. But we still have a LONG way to go.

Although it's the second to be published, this is the first card I have made with all my new Christmas supplies.

The card base is Early Espresso, measuring 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, scored at the 4 1/4 mark. The Whisper White layer measures 3 3/4 x 5. It was embossed with the Woodland Embossing Folder. Using a piece of my Stampin' Sponges, I sponged a little Smoky Slate into the embossing folder, on the top side, where it says "Sizzix." Since I just wanted to reduce the stark white look, I didn't use much. (Tip: To clean your folder, simply rinse it off in cool water.)

Garden Green is the colour of the boughs and greeting. Beautiful Boughs was the die set I used for the boughs and the greeting tag, which comes with the adorable little holes. Be sure to use a precision plate when using detailed dies. I used the Linen Thread to tie the greeting around the piece of Whisper White (it's actually taped on the back.) To get the look I have, fold the thread in two and poke it through the hole on the top of the greeting tag. Then loop both ends through. Repeat this procedure for the other side. The deer was stamped in Early Espresso and fussy cut.

For assembly, I used Mini Dimensionals under the greeting before taping down the Linen Threads. Multipurpose Glue was used to attach the Whisper White layer and the boughs. Finally, the deer was attached with the Mini Dimensionals as well. I thought about adding some sparkle to this card but decided to leave it as is.

Inspiration

Hello all,

One of my favourite things is coming up with my own card designs. People often ask me where do I find my inspiration? Well, you never know when it's going to strike. Sometimes it's right in front of you. Other times it can sneak up on you. Or, as in this case, it can be hanging around your neck. Yup, it came from my ukulele strap!

This card was created as part of a Holiday Swap with other Victoria area demonstrators. For this swap each of us needed to make 2 cards from the same set. I decided to feature the So Many Stars Bundle. Since I didn't want to cover up the glorious Perennial Essence Designer Series Paper, this is a fairly straightforward card to make.

You'll need a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Blackberry Bliss, scored half way at the 4 1/4" mark. Trim down a piece of your favourite Perennial Essence DSP to 3 3/4" x 5".  Using your Snail, attach the DSP to the front of the folded card base.

The Mercury Glass Designer Acetate Sheets are amazing! (Tip - The do have a protective plastic wrap on the front which can be peeled off after you run it through your die cutting machine.) I used the 3rd largest star from the So Many Stars Bundle. Attach your star to the card front with Tear and Tape. (Tip - You don't need a lot and I tried to attach pieces under the silver parts of the star rather than the clear.)

I stamped the greeting in Blackberry Bliss and cut it out with the Rectangle Stitched Dies. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to attach it to the card.

To add a little something extra, I attached 3 Metallic Pearls.

Since it uses a die cutting machine, this technically isn't considered a beginner card but it was so EASY. If you have machine, grab your favourite Designer Series Paper and give it a shot.
